The American International School of Johannesburg, Theatre and Art complex comprises a 525 seat Performing Arts Theatre, music rehearsal rooms, film and visual art studios, as well as a Maker Space organised around a central courtyard. The complex sits proud just to the north of the outdoor dining area and amphitheatre in the centre of the campus.

The main theatre volume is on the western end of this courtyard, and is connected on the west to the rest of the campus via a smaller courtyard space. These courtyards perform a dual function of outdoor classrooms, as well as outdoor reception areas and breakout spaces during performances. The rehearsal spaces are cleverly connected to the stage by covered walkways. The main House of the Theatre is flanked by a series of swivelling wooden acoustic panels that open out into the courtyard spaces. This allows for natural ventilation of the space when weather permits. Similar pivoting panels with different treatment on either side are employed on the stage to absorb or reflect sound depending on the production requirements.
