National Housing Wants Softer Loans to Build Cheaper Houses

National Housing and Construction Company Limited (NHCC) has asked the government to make better policies so that it can build affordable houses for Ugandans.

NHCC is tasked with offering low-cost houses but has received mixed feelings over the prices of its apartments that range between Shs 100m and Shs 600m - amounts that are way beyond the reach of ordinary Ugandans. Government owns a 51 per cent stake in the company.

According to Parity Twinomujuni, the chief executive officer of NHCC, government needs to come up with stricter legislation and incentives like tax waivers so that construction costs are minimised in order to achieve affordable housing.
