UCT : Lecturer Architecture vacancy (Closing date : 01 July 2015)

As part of the 'New Generation of Academics Programme' sponsored by the Department of Higher Education and Training, the School of Architecture, Planning and Geomatics at the University of Cape Town seeks black South African candidates for one full-time position at the level of Lecturer in Architecture.

The anticipated start date is 01 January 2016.

Within the School, the demographic diversity of our society is currently under represented. One of the areas that has been identified for particular intervention is in the undergraduate architecture program, where students enter with vastly different cultural backgrounds and learning experiences.

Today, at a time of exciting change within the School and the University, this posting is seeking candidates with demonstrable talent and passion for the making and teaching of architecture, as well as the capacity to work within a rigorous research environment, and who can bring new perspectives to our academic community.

- Masters' degree (professional) in architecture or equivalent
- previous teaching experience at the undergraduate and/ or graduate level
  is preferred, as is a record of 
research scholarship and/ or creative works

Candidates should have a defined area of research in Architecture Design and demonstrate a creative and innovative spirit in teaching and practice. Candidates should also demonstrate an ability or potential to teach at the intersection of different subjects through studios, workshops and seminars to undergraduate students from a diversity of backgrounds.

Candidates must be willing to engage across the various disciplines within the architecture department such as, Building Technology; Design and Representation; and History & Theory.

We seek individuals who can add new dimensions to our intellectual activities; help us change design in new ways that are responsive to broader social and environmental needs; and who are ready to teach undergraduate studios, workshops and seminars.

Staff responsibilities are teaching, research, administ rat ion and social responsibility. For the first three years of this appointment , the new Lecturer will enjoy reduced teaching load, and mentoring in order to nurture his/ her academic career.

The annual cost of employment , including benefits, is R 528 275.
