CPD Webinars : Post-Covid Perspectives for Architecture

There can be no doubt that the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted all of us in our personal and working lives and presented us with ‘the new normal’ and all the uncertainties that come with that notion.

The pandemic has also brought into sharp focus the social, spatial and environmental inequalities that exist in our society and in our cities. As architects we need to seize this opportunity to reinstate the importance of design thinking not as a nice-to-have but as an essential component of creating responsive and appropriate architecture. Our special skill is to translate issues and ideas into built form through the design process. How will the pandemic shape the future of urban design and architectural thinking and practices?

This has prompted us to conceptualise a webinar series entitled POST-COVID-19 PERSPECTIVES FOR ARCHITECTURE IN SOUTH AFRICA focused particularly on the impact of the pandemic on the urban design and architectural profession. The aim is to stimulate debate around current issues in architectural practice and education. STADIO Holdings is hosting the webinars in collaboration with OpenArchitecture and the Architectural Education Forum Africa (AEFA).

STADIO Holdings (soon to be STADIO Higher Education Institution) is in the process of developing a new School of Architecture and Spatial Design; OpenArchitecture is an initiative of SAIA which seeks to facilitate flexible blended architectural programmes enabling students to study and work at the same time; and the AEFA is a platform for architectural educators to share ideas, collaborate through research and discuss current issues in architectural education with specific reference to Africa and especially sub-Saharan Africa.

Details on speakers and registration will follow before each event. Check this web page for registration details & updates. We look forward to welcoming you at these discussions!

Each webinar is accredited for 0.2 Category 1 CPD by the Cape Institute for Architecture (CIfA). A certificate of completion, based on full attendance of an event, will be issued by STADIO Holdings. This certificate may then be submitted to CiFA.
