Angola : 2008-12-01 Stadiums for CAN2010 inaugurated on independence day
Luanda- The stadiums being built in the provinces of Luanda, Huíla, Benguela and Cabinda for the African Football Cup of Nations (CAN2010) the country will host, will be inaugurated next year on the national independence day, November 11.
The information was released by the director for information, publicity and marketing of the competition’s Organising Committee (COCAN), Manuel Mariano.
Speaking to Angop, Manuel Mariano said the stadiums will be inagurated with a tournament of national character.
He explained that the idea is to include the opening of the stadiums into the plan of celebrations of the national independence, with a programme reaching all four pitches.
He said COCAN wants the tournament to be a test to the functioning of the stadiums that are expected complete and handed over to the authorities on October 30 next year.
The information officer said the FIFA deadline for the handover of the stadiums are being accomplished.
Of the four stadiums, the Luanda one will be the biggest, with a capacity for 50,000 spectators.
