SACAP Vacancy - Chief Operations Officer






The South African Council for the Architectural Profession (SACAP) is a regulatory body for the Architectural Profession.  SACAPs primary role is to protect the public by maintaining a register of Architectural Professionals, within the profession through a Code of Professional Conduct, the identification of work that may be performed by registered persons and publishing guidelines for professional fees.


Position: Chief Operations Officer  


SACAP is looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic and energetic person to join SACAP as Chief Operations Officer.  The purpose of the position is:


(1)  To direct, administer and coordinate SACAP’s operational areas and play a role in anchoring the organization to realize its full potential by regulating and managing its vision, mission and statutory mandate.

(2)  To provide strategic leadership and management of all operational and support departments within SACAP.


Role description

The candidate will be responsible for the following:

·         Daily management of the teams KPI’s, Bi-annual staff appraisal and performance measurement.

·         Overseeing the daily processing function and engage with various stakeholders.

·         Project management of initiatives that have direct impact on processing operations.

·         Continual analysis of the internal systems and processes to look at ways of streamlining and improving processing operations.

·         Design office workflow system.

·         Risk awareness and management of risk are of vital importance in this position.

·         Monitor duties assigned to operations personnel to ensure efficient operation of functional area.

·         Develop methods to measure department performance and ensure that development/improvement programmes are in place where necessary.

·         Develop and monitor the execution of the strategy and operational plans.

·         Provide input into SACAP’s overall strategy.

·         Manage and oversee the operational budget.

·         Measure the overall effectiveness and efficiency of processes, identify and implement ways to improve processes whilst ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and mitigating risk.

·         Responsible for ensuring collaboration within SACAP, ensuring that reporting to all Committees of Council is optimal.

·         Review and ensure that quarterly strategic, operational, governance and risk management reports are managed within SACAP.

·         Implement Optimal Governance Delivery and Resource Management.

·         Maintain efficient customer care and Stakeholder Management.

·         Management of all services providers and their contracts with SACAP.

·         Input to the strategy development of SACAP.

·         Understands the regulatory framework of the Built environment.

·         Demonstrate insight knowledge of technology development and infrastructure and how this can be used to meet business needs

·         People development and management.

·         Delegate responsibilities.



·         Relevant and appropriate post Graduate Degree in business management. MBA will be an advantage.

·         Fifteen (15) years of functional experience with at least seven (7) years in a highly strategic Operational Executive Management role including staff supervisory, budgetary and management responsibility.

·         An understanding of the Regulatory environment.

·         Excellent communication (written and verbal) and people skills.

·         Proven track record in reviewing Strategy and policy implementation.

·         Proven track record of successfully leading and inspiring a diverse group of employees.

·         Proven track record in leading a diverse group of employees while creating an environment that seeks to grow them.

·         Solid previous exposure to governance, policies and operations of an organisation.

·         Good interpersonal, negotiation and leadership skills.




Applicants will be required to take a proficiency test assessing the knowledge, experience and attributes needed. Applicants are expected to make a maximum 1.5 hours available for the interview.


Shortlisted candidates will be required to undergo psychometric testing to confirm attitudinal and behavioral alignment to the position. The assessment takes a day from 07h30 to 17h00.


In this position you will be reporting to the Registrar/CEO.
