KZN Housing Delivery Comes under Scrutiny

The Portfolio Committee on Human Settlements will this week, 19 to 23 September 2016, visit the KwaZulu-Natal province to assess this province’s housing delivery performance.

On Monday 19 September, the Committee will be in Pietermaritzburg receiving a briefing from the Provincial and National Departments of Human Settlements on the overall performance as well as the restoration of Title Deeds project.

On Tuesday 20 September, the Committee will conduct an In Loco site inspection in a number of housing projects in ILembe district municipality. Projects to be visited include; Inyoni Slums, Steve Biko Phase 2 and Sakamakhanya, among others.

On Wednesday 21 September, the Committee will be in UThungulu district municipality, visiting projects such as Thubalethu Extension, Kwa Bhejane, eMpangeni Catalyst and Ngudwini, among others.

On Thursday 22 September, the Committee will be in EThekwini Municipality, overseeing projects such as; Hampshire, Lamontville Slums, Cornubia 1B and Glebalands.

On Friday 23 September, the Committee will focus on the EThekwini’s implementation of the Rectification programme as well as the implementation of the Financed Linked Individual Subsidy Programme (FLISP). FLISP is a subsidy is for residential properties in formal towns, where transfer of ownership and registration of mortgage bond is recordable in the Deeds Office.
