Angolan Construction Minister Calls for Strict Control of Rehabilitation Works
Ndalatando — Angola's minister of Construction Waldemar Pires Alexandre Wednesday in Libolo, coastal Cuanza Sul province, urged the inspection services of rehabilitation works for strictness in their assignment in order to meet the provisions contained in contract.
The minister was addressing the award ceremony of road rehabilitation works in the provinces of Cuanza Norte and Cuanza Sul, under the operation plan of China's Credit Line.
The official said that an efficient monitoring of the works entails construction of roads with quality and durability, adding that this a fact that has been overlooked in many situations by various companies.
Waldemar Pires Alexandre reminded those involved in this process the need for compliance with the written rules and regulations in the contract documents in order to ensure the desired quality of the works.
He said that his sector will not give up the compliance with the law on public procurement.
In order to achieve this objective, the minister spoke of the engagement by the owner (Government), through the Roads Institute of Angola (INEA), and contractors.
The minister said that the investment in the rehabilitation of these roads to ensure tranquility and comfort movement requires the actors involved more responsibility, rigor and commitment.
The works cover a total of 396 kilometers of roads, with platforms ranging between 11 and nine meters wide, two lanes with 3.5 to four meters each and 1.5 meters of roadside.
Estimated at USD 360 million, the project will be executed with in a period of 18 months by several Chinese companies.
