RSSB, RRA in Joint Drive Targeting Informal Construction Sector
By Michel Nkurunziza
The Rwanda Social Security Board (RSSB) and Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA) are urging employers and workers in the informal sector - especially in construction, carpentry and handicrafts - to comply with tax and social security regulations.
As RRA has been running a campaign to increase voluntary tax compliance in the construction sector, which is dominated by occasional workers without fixed salary, RSSB has followed suit by urging them, and their employers, to pay their social security contributions.
Contribution rates for the pension scheme are 3% of the gross salary paid by the employer and 3% by the employee. The benefits go to the insured person himself after retirement or invalidity, and in case of the beneficiary's death to his eligible survivors.
