Mwanza — Mwanza Airport expansion project has stalled due to lack of funds, according to the Airport Manager, Ms Easter Madale.

She told the Daily News here yesterday that the authority signed the contract in June 2012, allowing the contractor to start work in July 2012, but fund shortage has impeded the expansion and renovation works on the runway. Under the contract, the contractor had 24 months to finish the work.

BADEA and the Opec Fund for International Development (OFID) are jointly funding the 105bn/- project, which the Chinese contractor, Beijing Construction Engineering Group (BCEG) is executing. She said construction started with 20bn/- from BADEA and OFID, with the government required to pay the balance.
