Drop in cement hurting growth in construction
The construction sector, which is usually seen as the pulse of economic activity, slowed down recently as cement prices shot up amid low production, writes ALI TWAHA.
There was low production of cement between March and April 2016, which led to a slump in the construction sector, the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (Ubos) said recently.
Official sector figures released last week show that the slump came as a result of reduced production capacities at “major cement producers in the country” during the period. Tororo Cement and Hima Cement are the largest producers in the country.
