'Utako Market Structures Violate Building Plans'

Investigations by Aso Chronicle have revealed that the Utako Ultramodern Market, which has over 800 shops, is highly congested because the buildings are clustered as against municipal planning laws.
The market is among the most patronised in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). It is situated in the heart of the city and readily accessible to many people, especially those in Utako, Jabi and Wuye districts and surrounding satellite towns.
According to a document obtained exclusively by our reporters, Abuja Markets Management Limited made a preliminary condition survey of the market and observed that "all the structures at the market were built by individuals. The quality of construction is poor and substandard. Some of the buildings appear structurally unsafe."
