Abuja Airport to Be Shut Again for Runway Repairs
By Chris Agabi
After about one and half years since the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja was shut by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) for runway repairs, the runway has gone bad again, requiring fixing.
The Minister of State, Aviation, Sen. Hadi Sirika, said he had no option but to shut the airport as the runway was riddled with pot holes. He however didn't say when.
It would be recalled that in July 2014, the airport was shut down to fix some ruptured parts of the runway. In two weekends in July, the airport was shut for about 60 hours altogether. An estimated N500m was lost to the closure. The first closure which occurred from Saturday, July 5, 2014 to Monday, July 7, 2014 affected delegates arriving in Nigeria for the 1st World Pension Summit in Abuja.
