New CAAZ board appointed
THE minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development Joram Gumbo has appointed a new board for the Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe (CAAZ)
Prominent lawyer and current vice chairperson, Thembinkosi Magwaliba, is now the interim chairperson of the board which comprises of retired Brigadier General Elasto Madzingira, former ASA Resources (Mwana Africa) executive Caroline Mathonsi, Joseph Jambo and Pamela Maringire.
Speaking at a press conference in Harare on Monday, Gumbo said government was still searching for a substantive chairperson to lead the CAAZ board.
“The issue at the moment is that government is looking for a candidate with a technical understanding of the matter at hand. We are therefore, in consultations for an aviation qualified chairperson,” he said.
CAAZ has been operating without a board since November last year
“CAAZ has been operating without a board for the past seven months, so presently; the announced will serve as members of the board with immediate effect. However, the board must not have seven and not less than five members, so the other posts are still being considered,” Gumbo said.
Former Zupco chairperson, Chipo Dyanda, was also appointed as the new Air Zimbabwe chairperson.
He said Air Zimbabwe’s acting chief executive, Edmund Makona, had been doing a great job but his ministry expect the presence of a chairperson to speed up the substantive chief executive appointment.
“Air Zimbabwe did not have a chairperson for the past eight months,” he said.
