Cape Town - Early morning traffic was disrupted after a bus and a truck were set alight in service delivery protests in Cape Town on Wednesday.

City of Cape Town senior traffic officer Richard Coleman said the unrest resulted in the closure of the N2 outgoing at Borchards Quarry and N2 incoming at the R300 at 03:20.

“Tyres were set alight and a truck was torched on the N2 outgoing,” he said.

The area was cleared and the incoming lanes were opened at 04:35, followed by the outgoing lanes at 05:50.

But at 06:20, Symphony Way was closed as Blikkiesdorp residents took to the streets.

“At Saartjie Baartman Road, a Golden Arrow bus and tyres were set alight,” Coleman confirmed.

The crowd has since dispersed, but by 09:00 the road remained closed as council cleared the rubble.

Metro Police as well as the SAPS were on scene and monitoring the area, he said.
