Fancy your own Nkandla? Familiar ‘luxury homestead’ for sale

Durban - A familiar-looking “luxury compound” in KwaZulu-Natal has mysteriously been placed for sale on e-commerce website OLX.

According to OLX, the 3.83ha luxury compound in the pristine and historical sprawling hills of the Nkandla municipality was put on sale around 15:00 on Thursday afternoon, a few hours before President Jacob Zuma was due to give his State of the Nation Address.

The compound boasts world-class security, entertainment infrastructure and is equipped with almost “any amenity an international stately family would require”.

“This kingdom of exclusivity is a secure dream in the heartland of balmy KwaZulu-Natal,” it continued.

The ad did have some requirements for any potential buyers though, specifically those with mysterious funding habits.

“Kindly provide your full name, occupation, SA ID number, Passport No in your reply. As well stating willingness to declare source of funding.”

Pets were allowed.

Rhodes statue goes on sale on Gumtree

This was not the first time a famous South African icon has appeared for sale online.

In April, a Gumtree user took to the website to sell the now-fallen Cecil John Rhodes statue previously perched at UCT.

“Genuine piece of South African history for your own garden! (Previous owner is trying to erase the past),” reads the opening line of Gumtree user Safferland’s ad.

“Statue comes with a free international scholarship which can change your future! Great conversation starter for your next braai.”

The statue was priced at a steal of R1 500.

The ad was taken down by Gumtree hours later, ending a rather short-lived run on Thursday, but can be seen here.
