Johannes Tomana loses again
THE High Court yesterday dismissed an application by Prosecutor General Johannes Tomana against the acquittal of prominent human rights lawyer, Beatrice Mtetwa.
Tomana had appealed against Mtetwa’s 2013 acquittal in a case in which she was accused of obstructing the course of justice after she had protested against police officers who had illegally raided the home of then prime minister, Morgan Tsvangirai’s director of research, Thabani Mpofu.
Tomana was not pleased with the acquittal and sought to resuscitate the case in 2015, more than two years later.
High Court judge, Justice Garainesu Mawadze, dismissed Tomana’s application with costs.
Mtetwa, who is the chairperson of the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights board, told the court that Tomana’s actions were being driven by malice.
