More than one third of Govt construction projects delayed

OUT of 400 government construction projects implemented countrywide every year, only 40% of them are completed on time.
This was revealed by works deputy minister James Sankwasa during the official opening of the SME contractors training in Windhoek yesterday.
According to Sankwasa, reasons cited for not completing projects on time are lack of technical support, inadequate site investigations, non-availability of resources, lack of adequate project management skills, high penalties, lack of understanding of contracts, poor financial management, inadequate capacity and insolvency situations among others.
He said all this hampers SMEs' capacity to successfully handle construction projects.
