KAMPALA. First mooted in 2010, the proposal to construct another stadium in honour of 1972 400m hurdles gold medalist the late John Akii-Bua could soon become reality. This, after a field trip to the 46.319 acre-proposed site next to Julius Acon Road in Lira town and stakeholders’ meeting last week.
“We are making a report immediately then come out with the terms of reference thereafter,” stated Commissioned for sports, Omara Apita, after the meeting in Lira.

The gathering included Lira RDC Emmanuel Mwaka, Chief Administrative Officer Elias Byamungu among other technocrats in the district. “President Museveni instructed the then Prime Minister Apollo Nsibambi to initiate the project although it delayed after our would-be partners China decided against the partnership,” Omara said in his opening remarks.
