Johannesburg - The heatwave sweeping across the country is putting strain on hospitals.

The Arwyp Medical Centre, a private hospital in Kempton Park is one of those affected.

"For the past four months we have been having water shortages. The council has shut down water in different areas," said the hospital's maintenance head, Chris Joubert.

"We have had water down on a daily basis and that has affected some parts of the hospital."

He said for the last few weeks they had depended increasingly on their private water tank.

"Being without water affects a lot of things. It even affects the plumbing... We are at a high risk because this is a hospital."
