Gauteng Regional Awards for Architecture 2015

On Thursday 22 October, the Gauteng Institute for Architecture (GIfA) announced the winners of the biennial Regional Awards for Architecture 2015 at a memorable event held at the well-known Sheds@1Fox located on the Western Edge of Johannesburg.

The Awards Programme captivated the creativity of Gauteng’s architectural fraternity and celebrated the most meritorious buildings completed in the cycle 2013-2015. “Central to this programme was the need to identify and recognise the intrinsic quality of architectural merit in completed work of all scales and genres, to showcase the best work, and to allow for the promotion of the profession,” said Daniel van der Merwe, President of the GIfA.


For the 2015 GIfA Awards for Architecture, 21 new buildings and 4 research projects were selected as finalists out of a record number of 44 projects submitted for consideration. The Jury commented that the work was all of an extraordinarily high quality and very diverse in terms of its scope and scale of urban intervention.

This year’s adjudicators were Anne Graupner, Nabeel Essa, Alexander Opper, Anthony Orelowitz and Daniel van der Merwe.
