Johannesburg - The M1 highway was officially re-opened on Thursday afternoon at 2:30pm following the deadly collapse of a temporary pedestrian bridge along the Grayston Drive in Sandton the previous afternoon.
Mayor Parks Tau and Gauteng Transport MEC Ismail Vadi were at the scene to observe as the road was re-opened almost 24 hours after the bridge collapsed, crushing several vehicles and killing two people.
The Johannesburg Metro Police Department said the debris from the steel structure had been cleared and the road swept clean.
