Durban – The University Of KwaZulu Natal (UKZN) reopened with almost no incidents of violence, an official said on Monday.
UKZN spokesperson Lesiba Seshoka said: "There were no incidents reported on the University’s Edgewood, Westville, Howard College and Medical School campuses."
Seshoka did, however, mention minor incidents at the Pietermaritzburg campus.
"There were two separate incidents of students discharging fire extinguishers reported on the Pietermaritzburg Campus.
"One suspect has been apprehended and charged. Risk Management Services are on the lookout for a second suspect. Two students were treated on the scene, one of whom had to be [taken] to hospital."
Seshoka added that Risk Management Services and SAPS were monitoring the situation on all campuses.
UKZN suspended all academic programmes at its campuses following violent student protests and disruptions in recent weeks.
University Management was in discussion with the student leadership regarding their grievances.
