War for market stalls rattles peace in Kitengela
Business in the busy Kitengela township were yesterday afternoon interrupted after some traders rioted over allocation of market stalls by the Kajiado county government.
Anti-riot police were deployed in the town to quell the violence that almost turned into an ethnic clash. Shops and banks, among other businesses, were closed as the situation threatened to get out of hand with police engaging the two groups in running battles.
Police sources said some members of the Maasai community are demanding that half of the market space be allocated to them with the rest sharing the other half.
