Don't compromise building standards
YESTERDAY a building under construction collapsed in Ongata Rongai on the outskirts of Nairobi.
The building was structurally unsound but the contractors proceeded with it, despite the dangers it posed immediately and in the future.
At the same time, the National Construction Authority, which has the mandate to ensure that all contractors comply with the regulations, is itself embroiled in alleged mismanagement and complicity in ignoring standards.
Senior NCA managers have complained that their bosses interfere to clear buildings that have been procedurally identified for demolition.
