Harare, CBZ housing deal takes off

Cyril Zenda

THE Harare City Council and CBZ Bank have finalised an urban housing development deal under which all payments by members of various housing co-operatives in the capital city would be transacted through the commercial bank.

The measures are meant to protect home-seekers from marauding land barons that have fleeced them of large sums of money.

The arrangement, which is being spearheaded by the Urban Development Corporation (UDCorp), has started being implemented in Caledonia where nearly 120 housing co-operatives falling within the first three of Caledonia Housing Project’s 20 phases had their mandatory banking accounts opened at CBZ Bank.
