Consulting firms expected to submit proposal to tripartite committee

The two consultant firms chosen to conduct studies about the effects of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) are expected to submit project proposals and division of tasks in the National Tripartite Committee meeting which opens today, an official said.

The National Tripartite Committee of Ethiopia, Sudan and Egypt will held its 8th meeting in Addis Ababa beginning today.

The countries chose the French BRL and Dutch Deltares as main and sub contractors respectively to conduct the two studies proposed by the international panel of experts to analyze the effects of the dam.

The main consultant, BRL, failed to submit its report during the 7th meeting of the committee held in Khartoum, Sudan, in July, Ethiopia's National Tripartite Committe Chairperson Eng. Gedeon Asfaw said.

"A guideline has been issued that allowed the firms to submit how they are going to approach the studies and running coasts. They failed to present their proposals following the instruction," he said.

The firm should have been submitted its reports regarding division of tasks and running costs in accordance with the decision of the fifth meeting of the committee, Gedeon added. The firms are expected to submit the report during the eighth meeting.
