Senate wants electricity fixed charges abolished

The Senate yesterday passed a resolution urging the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) to immediately enforce the abolishment of the monthly Fixed Charges (FC) component of the monthly electricity tariff collected from Nigerian electricity consumers.

The resolution followed a motion tagged, “Unfair trade practices of Electricity Distribution Companies (Discos) in Nigeria,” sponsored by Sam Egwu and David Umaru.

Egwu said the distribution companies since their takeoff had been ripping off consumers through fixed charges and bulk metering.
