Johannesburg - A truck was set ablaze in yet another protest in Limpopo on Friday.

The incident happened on the R555 in Burgersfort.

Police spokesperson Colonel Ronel Otto said the truck was set alight as an angry crowd waited for the outcome of a meeting with mining representatives in the area.

They had also tried to blockade the R37 as the meeting took place in a municipal building.

Protesters outside the building were dispersed by Public Order Police and the Saps air wing.

The road was reopened, but Otto warned that the situation was tense. The ongoing protests along the R555 are linked to a dispute involving the mines, which have apparently sourced workers from outside the area.

The community is also angry about a road they say they were promised would be built.

Earlier on Friday in Limpopo, residents of Vuwani torched a police Nyala in a protest against being incorporated into the Malalumelele municipality.

In Cape Town, part of the N2 near Cape Town International Airport was closed due to protest action.
