NFA Halts Construction of Bunyoro King's Palace

The National Forestry Authority (NFA) has blocked the construction of the palace of Bunyoro-Kitara king, Omukama Solomon Gafabusa Iguru I, at Kaduku hill in Kiryandongo District.

The construction works were commissioned by the king last week and earth movers started constructing a road leading to the site at the top of Kaduku hill in Kigumba Sub-county.
However, on Thursday, NFA officials backed by environmental police stopped the construction, accusing the kingdom of encroaching on a forest reserve.

The NFA’s Budongo Systems Range manager, Mr Martin Mwodi, said the kingdom had not been cleared to construct a palace in the forest reserve.
