Durban - Parts of the Durban N2’s southbound carriageway have been reopened after being closed for most of Tuesday morning due to a tanker fire.

Metro Police spokesperson Senior Superintendent Eugene Msomi said two lanes for traffic heading away from Durban have been opened, as well as the Sarnia Road Bridge.

"The motorway on the bridge has been declared safe for use, and now we are in the process of restoring full use of the dual carriageway," he said.

He confirmed that the northbound lanes heading towards the city will remain closed until further notice because of the danger of falling concrete.

"We have had a fair amount of concrete which has fallen on to the road from the bridge so for now the lanes will stay closed."
