Mango Forced to Retract Claims about On Time Performance

Johannesburg, July 2015 - Low cost carrier Mango today lost an Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) case brought against them.

In a recent radio commercial Mango claimed that they were "...South Africa's most on-time domestic airline on average...". A claim that they later echoed in a press release where they boasted about being ranked third in an international study measuring the on-time performance of low cost carriers.

A complaint was raised against this claim by a member of the public who cited the fact that on-time performance statistics for local airlines are actually publicly published by Airports Company South Africa, and that in fact Mango was far from the national leader in terms of on-time performance.

The ruling confirmed this stating that "According to the information on the ACSA website, Mango ranked 5th for departures from OR Tambo, 5th from Cape Town, and 4th from King Shaka for May 2015. For the Year to Date, Mango rated 6th from OR Tambo, 6th from Cape Town, and 5th from Durban".

The ASA ruling requires that Mango withdraw their claim to being the most on-time airline "immediately as deadlines permit".
