Akaki Kaliti District Park Construction Gets Suspended

Addis Abeba’s park Agency suspended construction on a new 62,518sqm park in Akaki Kality District, which it had started developing without proper authorisation.

The project, which was one of seven taking place around Addis Abeba, all facing problems, is also challenged by nine churches in the area, which have been using the site for the Timket (Epiphany) celebration since the imperial regime.

The 33.8 million Br project undertaken at Akaki Kaliti by the Addis Abeba Beautification, Park & Cemetery Development & Administration Agency (AABPCDAA) came to a halt when the district office of the city’s Land Administration & Construction Permit Authority sent a letter to them when the Agency failed to respond to a verbal warning issued to it two weeks prior.
