The Art of the Brick®, the world renowned LEGO art exhibit opened at the TheZone@Rosebank on the 3rd of April 2015. The Art of the Brick is a world class exhibit geared for the whole family, students and LEGO fans of all ages. Visitors can look forward to 75 original artworks, the sculptures were created by Nathan Sawaya and needed more than 1 million LEGO bricks.

Hailed by CNN, The Art of the Brick is “one of the Top 10 Must See Global Exhibitions”. The Art of The Brick aims to inspire artwork through unique art forms and has attracted millions of visitors worldwide in the US, Europe, Australia, Asia and now South Africa. The Art of the Brick is moving to Johannesburg after a fantastic reception in Cape Town since December 2014. Tens of thousands of Capetonian LEGO fans were enthralled by these incredible LEGO sculptures.

The Art of the Brick artist, Nathan Sawaya is excited to showcase his work for the first time in Gauteng. Sawaya says: “This country is one of the most amazing places I have been to on my travels and I am thrilled to be coming back and bringing The Art of the Brick to Johannesburg”.

LEGO artworks include Sawaya’s most famous work to date, ‘Yellow’ famously featured in Lady Gaga’s music video G.U.Y, as well as other sculptures such as the T-Rex skeleton constructed from over 80,000 LEGO bricks and measuring over six metres in length. In addition to this, visitors will see some of the world’s most famous artworks recreated with LEGO such as Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa, Van Gogh’s Starry Night and the Venus de Milo.  

The venue for the Art of the Brick in Johannesburg is TheZone@Rosebank and will run until the 2nd of August 2015. TheZone@Rosebank is a world class entertainment, shopping and dining destination which is easily accessible to visitors from Johannesburg, Centurion and Pretoria thanks to its walking distance proximity to the Gautrain network.

The Art of the Brick is full of LEGO, art and education experiences including video interviews with Nathan Sawaya, a PlayStation gaming area featuring LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham, a LEGO building zone and many more fun activities for old and young to enjoy.

Tickets to the exhibition are available either online at or at the exhibition box office. Tickets cost R140 for adults and R95 for kids under 18.  Entry for kids under two is free.
