The Graduate School of Architecture (GSA) at the University of Johannesburg is Africa?s youngest and most dynamic school or architecture. Following the successful implementation of the world-renowned Unit System method of teaching in the professional programme in 2015, we are now seeking to make a new appointment at the Senior Lecturer or Associate Professor* level, to commence in February 2019.

We are seeking an exceptionally motivated, qualified and energetic applicant to fulfil the role of Programme Leader in History & Theory, responsible for shaping, managing and delivering a world-class History & Theory course. In the first year of your appointment, the emphasis will be on the design and implementation of the History & Theory Dissertation (HTD) course within the School?s main programme, the professional M Arch. Thereafter, the emphasis will shift from the day-to-day management and oversight of the M Arch (Prof) programme to developing a unique post-professional

MA in Critical Theory and/or Contemporary History & Theory, tailored specifically to the African and global South contexts.

You will have demonstrable expertise in the area of nineteenth and twentieth century architectural history, with knowledge of urbanism and urban history. Proficiency in the history of architectural theory and historiography, including familiarity with major research paradigms in the field is essential. You will also have a proven track record in teaching and research, as well as excellent managerial and leadership skills. You will be able to share your vision for contributing to a programme that brings together the different strengths already present in the school, whilst developing new areas of research that are both locally and globally relevant. In addition, you will be able to meaningfully contribute to the GSA?s new cross-disciplinary think-tank, Transformative Pedagogies, an on-going design and research initiative tasked with finding innovative and intellectually rigorous approaches to the transformation of architectural canon and pedagogy in a developing world context.

You will share the responsibility of developing a robust and challenging programme with two assistants reporting to you for mentorship and guidance as we seek to build a new generation of African architectural scholars. Publication, travel and exhibition opportunities are highly encouraged and supported through discussion and negotiation with the Head of School.

You will be expected to:

?                Teach and assess architectural history and theory at the Master?s level;

?                Contribute actively to research in your specialist field related to architectural history & theory and/or urbanism and urban theory

?                Publish research, including the work of your students, using appropriate channels (peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations) as well as exhibitions, new forms of media and speaking engagements;

?                Share in the administration and management of the GSA and the wider Faculty;

?                Participate in official meetings of the GSA and Faculty;

?                Cultivate an active presence as a public intellectual;

?                Develop key national and international links and collaborative opportunities;

?                Actively contribute to the development and growth of the GSA.

Minimum Requirements:

?                A Master?s degree in Architecture (Senior Lecturer level) or PhD in Architecture (or related disciplines)

( Associate Professor level);

?                An in-depth and current knowledge of architectural design with a particular emphasis on history and theory;

?                A demonstrable research interest and proven research ability (articles, exhibitions, books);

?                A record of collegiality, collaboration and initiative;

?                Experience of teaching/reviewing at tertiary level;

?                An international profile with a demonstrable network and collaboration potential.

Following the successful implementation of the world-renowned Unit System method of teaching in the professional programme in 2015, we are now seeking to make a new appointment at the Senior Lecturer or Associate Professor* level, to commence in February 2019.

We are seeking an exceptionally motivated, qualified and energetic applicant to fulfil the role of Deputy Head of School and Academic Leader, responsible for assisting the Head of School in shaping, managing and delivering a worldclass, transformative pedagogical model, uniquely rooted in the African context. In the first year of the appointment, the emphasis will be on working closely with the GSA?s current cohort of part-time adjunct lecturers (Unit Leaders) to fulfil the mandate of excellence in the School?s main programme, the professional M Arch. Thereafter, the emphasis will shift from stabilisation of the current offerings to develop new and bold fields of knowledge and research across the School?s three programmes: M Arch, our new post-professional Master?s programme, the M Arch Design, Theory & Practice and in our creative practice-led PhD.

The GSA is rapidly developing research and teaching strengths in the following six specialist areas: design research; socially-responsible design; building technology; landscape; urbanism and critical theory. The successful applicant will not only have demonstrable expertise in at least two of these areas with the breadth and vision to encompass other specialisations, including new ones not listed above.

A proven track record in teaching and research is essential, as are excellent managerial and leadership skills. You will be able to share your vision for contributing to a programme that brings together the different strengths already present in the school, whilst developing new areas of research that are both locally and globally relevant. Requirements: Minimum educational qualification: Masters in Architecture (or equivalent) as recognised by the South African Council for the Architectural Profession (SACAP). Registration with a professional council:   Registration as a Professional Architect with SACAP.  Appointment experience:  3 years? post-experience registered with SACAP as a Professional Architect. Recognition of prior experience:  Grade A: At least 0-2 years? appropriate/recognisable experience in this profession after registration with the SACAP as a Professional Architect. Grade B: At least 14 years? appropriate/recognisable experience in this profession after registration with the SACAP as a Professional Architect. Grade C: At least 26 years? appropriate/recognisable experience in this profession after registration with the SACAP as a Professional Architect. Inherent requirements of the job:  Willingness to work outside of normal office hours ? Willingness to travel including early morning and late night air flights ? A valid (Code B/EB) driver?s licence ? Overnight stays away from home whilst on official business ? Sufficiently physically fit and healthy to walk long distances in the confines of the building and on site and carry out inspections.  Competencies (knowledge/skills): Knowledge of the Standard for Infrastructure Procurement and Delivery Management and the IDMS Toolkit ? Understand the roles and legal obligations of role-players at all three spheres of government and public entities ? Sound interpersonal and good verbal and written communication skills in at least two of the three official languages of the Western Cape ? Computer literacy (MS Office).

 

Duties (key result areas/outputs): Programme and project planning ? Conduct programme and project implementation and monitoring ? Provide assistance in the commissioning of projects ? Conduct programme and project evaluation ? Manage built environment programmes and interaction with a wide range of role-players and stakeholders across all spheres of government/private sector and communities ? Monitor and control the delivery of health infrastructure programmes on time, within budget and within defined quality standards.

The Manager: Secretariat Support is critical to effective corporate governance with regards to the:

  • development and management of an effective secretariat support system
  •  provision of a professional secretariat support service to Council and all Committees

Role description

The candidate will be responsible for the following:

  •  Develop and manage Corporate Governance Policy and Procedures.
  •  Ensure adherence to internal policies and procedures.
  •  Plan and manage the Annual Corporate Calendar, Programmes and venues for Council and Committee meetings.
  •  Review draft Agenda and submit to the COO, Registrar and Chairperson for approval.
  •  Prepare Council meeting packs and submit to the COO and Registrar for review and/ or approval.

In terms of Rule 8.1 of Board Notice 223 of 2013, when any nominations for members of a new Council becomes necessary, the Council shall constitute a Recommendation Panel within 30 (thirty) days of the call for nominations.

Proposals are invited from suitably qualified and experienced companies in Gauteng for the following:

RFP 3/2018: Salary Benchmark Services

NB: The BID and SACAP declaration form is obtainable at the SACAP Building, 51 Wessel Road, Rivonia? Sandton, at a non-refundable fee of R500.00. Payment can be made into the SACAP?s FNB bank account as follows: Account Number: 50411172203; Branch Code: 254005, Reference Number: 100012345

The tender documents plus 5 additional copies of these documents (including the original Specification Document) must be deposited in sealed envelopes on or before the closing date and time into the tender box at the Main Reception area at the above-mentioned address. SACAP reserves the right not to consider any Bid not fully completed.

 Terms and Conditions of this Tender

 1.1 Please note that the SACAP reserves the right not to accept the lowest bid or any bid in part or as a whole. It will award the contract to the bidder who proves to be fully capable of handling the contract and whose bid is technically acceptable and financially advantageous to SACAP.

1.2 Bids that are late or submitted by post, telegram, fax or e-mail will not be accepted.

1.3 Kindly note that the SACAP is entitled to amend any bid conditions, validity period, specifications or extend the closing date of bid. All bidders who submitted bids will be advised in writing of such amendments timeously.

1.4 Amended bids may be sent in an envelope marked *amendment to bid? and should be placed in the tender box before the closing date and time

1.5 All bids must contain sufficient information with regard to relevant experience, depth of skills, technology advancements within the company and flexibility of the company?s processes to adapt to ?SACAP?s? requirements.

1.6 Successful applicants will be required to enter into a service level agreement with SACAP in addition to contractual obligations

1.7 SACAP reserves the right without furnishing reasons whatsoever, to award or not to award this bid to any bidder(s) if it (SACAP) deems it fit or not fit notwithstanding the fact that other bidders may have submitted better or equally acceptable bids.

1.8 Failure to comply with any of the conditions as set out above will invalidate the bid.

SACAP is not bound to accept any Bid and reserves the right to cancel, withdraw or not to award services/bid in respect of the Bidders received, as well as to re-advertise at its sole discretion. Responding to the request does not automatically qualify the suppliers as registered or preferred service providers.

Should you not receive a response within three months of the closing date, please regard your Bid as unsuccessful.

Position: General Office Assistant - Temp
SACAP is looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic and energetic person to join SACAP as a General Office Assistant. To ensure that the office facilities of SACAP are kept in a clean and orderly condition at all times. 

  • Role description
    The candidate will be responsible for the following:
  •  Clean and keep orderly all floors and tops of all office building areas ? offices, corridors,kitchen and ablutions.
  •  Emptying waste bins or similar receptacles and disposing of waste material in designated collection points.
  •  Keep all cleaning equipment (e.g. mops, vacuum cleaners, buckets, brooms, dusters,      (etc.) clean and tidy.
  •  Monitor and maintain office supplies, including cleaning material, and notify superior before stock levels are depleted.
  •  Prepare meeting venues and function areas.
  •  Prepare and serve refreshments.
  •  Clear up after the event has ended.

    Requirements
  •  Grade 10.
  •  Previous experience in a similar role within a corporate environment.

Role description

  •  Assist with the compilation of Management reports to the Senior Manager.

  •  Understanding of relevant legislative and statutory mandate of professional bodies/Councils.
  •  Understanding of the public and private Further and Higher Education and Training institutions.

Requirements: Minimum educational qualification: Bachelor in Architecture (or equivalent) as recognised by the South African Council for the Architectural Profession (SACAP). Registration with a professional council: Registration as Professional Architect with the SACAP.  Appointment experience: 3 years? post-qualification architectural experience. Recognition of prior experience:  Grade A: At least 0-2 years? appropriate/recognisable experience in this profession after registration with the SACAP as a professional Architecture. Sufficiently physically fit and healthy to walk long distances in the confines of the building and on site and carry out inspections.  Competencies (knowledge/skills): Knowledge of the Standard for Infrastructure Procurement and Delivery Management and the IDMS Toolkit ? Understand the roles and legal obligations of role-players at all three spheres of government and public entities ?
