The South African Council for the Architecture Profession (SACAP) is the regulatory authority for the Architectural Profession established from the Architectural Profession Act, 2000 (Act No. 44 of 2000) (referred to as ?the Act?). SACAP is one of the six built environment professional councils resorting under the Council for the Built Environment (CBE) which reports to the Minister of the Department of Public Works (DPW).

SACAP regulates the profession as follows:

  •  Registration of suitably qualified architectural professionals and candidates.
     
    Administers a code of professional conduct.
  •  Guides the architectural profession by issuing guideline professional fees.
  •  Protects the public? interest by identifying the type of architectural work each                     category  of professionally registered person.

Position: General Office Assistant - Temp
SACAP is looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic and energetic person to join SACAP as a General Office Assistant. To ensure that the office facilities of SACAP are kept in a clean and orderly condition at all times. 

  • Role description
    The candidate will be responsible for the following:
  •  Clean and keep orderly all floors and tops of all office building areas ? offices, corridors,kitchen and ablutions.
  •  Emptying waste bins or similar receptacles and disposing of waste material in designated collection points.
  •  Keep all cleaning equipment (e.g. mops, vacuum cleaners, buckets, brooms, dusters,      (etc.) clean and tidy.
  •  Monitor and maintain office supplies, including cleaning material, and notify superior before stock levels are depleted.
  •  Prepare meeting venues and function areas.
  •  Prepare and serve refreshments.
  •  Clear up after the event has ended.

    Requirements
  •  Grade 10.
  •  Previous experience in a similar role within a corporate environment.
  •  Business Etiquette.
  •  Good Communication skills.
    In this position you will be reporting to the Committee Coordinator.

Role description

The candidate will be responsible for the followin

  •  Acknowledge complaints from members of the public.
  •  Manage complaints received from members of the public.
  •  Conduct investigation using various tools to gather information.
  •  Assist with the co-ordination of Tribunal activities.
  •  Assist with the provision of professional guidance to SACAP and monitor compliance in relation to its legal, regulatory and statutory aspects of its mandate.
  •  Drafting of legal contracts such as Service Level Agreement (SLAs), Employment Contracts, Consultancy Agreements; Project Contracts.
  •  Assist with the compilation of Management reports to the Senior Manager.
  •  Handle queries by architectural professionals and general public.
  •  Understanding of relevant legislative and statutory mandate of professional bodies/Councils.
  •  Understanding of the public and private Further and Higher Education and Training institutions.
  •  Knowledge of record keeping/documentation management systems.

Requirements

?         Matric.
?         LLB Degree.
?         Administration background will be an advantage.
?         PC Literacy.
?         Record keeping and archiving systems (manual and electronic).
?         Business Etiquette

Requirements: Minimum educational qualification: Bachelor in Architecture (or equivalent) as recognised by the South African Council for the Architectural Profession (SACAP). Recognition of prior experience:  Grade A: At least 0-2 years? appropriate/recognisable experience in this profession after registration with the SACAP as a professional Architecture. A valid (Code B/EB) driver?s licence ? Overnight stays away from home whilst on official business ? Sufficiently physically fit and healthy to walk long distances in the confines of the building and on site and carry out inspections.  Competencies (knowledge/skills): Knowledge of the Standard for Infrastructure Procurement and Delivery Management and the IDMS Toolkit ? Understand the roles and legal obligations of role-players at all three spheres of government and public entities ? Sound interpersonal and good verbal and written communication skills in at least two of the three official languages of the Western Cape ? Computer literacy (MS Office).

Duties (key result areas/outputs): Programme and project planning ? Conduct programme and project implementation and monitoring ? Provide assistance in the commissioning of projects ? Conduct programme and project evaluation ? Manage built environment programmes and interaction with a wide range of role-players and stakeholders across all spheres of government/private sector and communities ? SACAP : 5th Term Council Nomination

Notice to Registered Persons, Voluntary Associations and the Public

Council is enjoined by Section 4 (1), (2) of the Architectural Profession Act, 2000 (Act No. 44 of 2000), to invite Registered Persons, Voluntary Associations, the State and the Public in a prescribed manner to nominate a new Council.

As prescribed by Section 4 of the Act, on 18 September 2017, SACAP published an invitation calling for Registered Persons, Voluntary Associations, the State and the Public to nominate the 5th Term Council in a prescribed manner. SACAP received 60 nominations in this regard.

However, on the 4th of May 2018, the 4th Term Council took a decision to issue a new invitation for the nominations of the 5th Term Council. Therefore the call for nominations which was published on 18 September 2017 is deemed null and void.  A new invitation was issued on 03 June 2018, and disseminated in the Sunday Times, Government Gazette, SACAP website. All interested persons are requested to nominate.

10years+100projects Architecture in a Democratic South Africa publication by Prof Ora Joubert

Prof Ora Joubert  is the former HOD of Architecture from the Universities of Pretoria and the Free State and the author of 10+years 100+buildings ? architecture in a democratic South Africa (Cape Town: Bell-Roberts Publishing, 2009) which in 2010 received an Award of Excellence from the South African Institute of Architects. (http://bell-roberts.com?book=128).

Her writing refers to a companion to the former, titled 10+ years 100 projects ? architecture in a democratic South Africa, entailing the documenting of the most meritorious design dissertations from the eight South African universities offering architectural tuition at a post-graduate level. None of the work has previously been assembled and the information is gradually being lost.

The South African Council for the Architectural Profession (SACAP) requests all interested persons specialising in Public Relations (PR) to submit proposals for Public Relations (PR) services.  Closing date: Friday, 01 June @16h00. The RFP must be hand delivered to SACAP?s physical address (see website for address details).

SACAP will enter into a service level agreement for a period of 2 (two) years commencing on 01 July 2018 and ending 31 June 2020. The appointed service provider will be required to supply a quotation based on the following specifications:

RFP : Public Relations (PR) services

  • Newsletters, press releases and speech writing.
  •  Media monitoring reporting from Newsclip Media Monitoring ? print, media, television, online and social media (service provider will be required to present at quarterly SR Committee meetings).
  •  Attendance and reporting - PR status meetings (monthly).
  •  Media liaison with architectural and main stream media, including actively pursuing media opportunities.
  •  Daily monitoring, posting, reporting and providing follow-up communication services of all social media platforms? twitter and facebook.
  •  Draft communiques and content for special publications i.e. Annual Reports, publications and marketing collateral (quoted separately on separate project basis).
    Attendance of special events (as and when required).
  •  Ad hoc specialist services in relation to Strategic Corporate Communications Framework, policies and procedures (as and when required).

The appointed service provider must provide 5 (five) copies by hand delivery of the following in the submission:

  • Current registration with the Public Relations Institute of Southern Africa (PRISA).

The African Construction and Totally Concrete Expo returns to the Gallagher Convention Centre on 16 and 17 May 2018 and we have some exciting features to share with you. 

SACAP has entered into a trade agreement  and we have negiotated that some of the CPD courses are provided free of charge by SACAP recognised Voluntary Associations (VAs).

SACAP will be presenting on the Code of Profession Conduct and we invite all professionals to attend and learn about the importance of adhering to the regulatorty requirements in this regard.

This year you can expect over 30 free workshops (some CPD workshops), 250 local and international exhibiting companies, and unlimited networking opportunities with key private and public stakeholders.
