2011 Open ARchiTecture Challenge: Ghana

CALLING ALL ARCHITECTS, ECO-COMMUNITY DESIGNERS, STRUCTURAL ENGINEERS & IMAGINATIVE OTHERS:


Goal of the challenge is to design and build units of a model arts village in Ghana with a budget of $42,000-$62,000 and earth under the feet. The competition is a part of the Foundation’s ongoing project: tapping local resources for sustainable development in the African settings in the 21st century. We are interested in design solutions that integrate art into architecture for a more sustainable future. Join us! A grand prize winner and twenty top finalists and will be chosen. A HOUSE IN LUANDA: PATIO AND PAVILION is a Design Competition, an initiative of the Lisbon Architecture Triennale in partnership with the Luanda Triennale, and its aim is to select the best proposal for the design of a prototype of a family unit which leads to a patio, with a low construction cost, aimed at severely deprived families, typically consisting of 7-9 people (Parents, 3 children and 2 grandparents or Parents, 5 children, 2 grandparents), in an area of flat topography, located within the city limits of Luanda.

South Africa : Airports ready to transport soccer fans

Johannesburg - Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) has assured traveling soccer fans that there was no need to worry about a shortage of fuel during the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

"ACSA is confident that the operational plans in place will ensure that no aviation fuel shortages are experienced during the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

"As such, it has received priority attention with the overall plan and contingencies have been presented to and accepted by Parliament on 10 February," said ACSA general manager Chris Hlekane on Tuesday.

He said a working committee had also been set up to co-ordinate the fuel supply to airports, adding that a daily plan for fuel usage and delivery had been developed specifically for the month-long tourney. - BuaNews
