DSA Architects International
RSL Architects was established in Johannesburg in 1985 as Ridler, Shepherd Low Architects as a boutique firm focussing on Hotels, Casinos and Luxury Game Lodges in the Southern African region.
The practice has grown from 3 Partners and 5 Staff Members, to an international practice with 12 Partners, 14 Associates, and 105 Staff, with regional offices in Johannesburg, Lisbon and Dubai, and new offices to be opened in Qatar and Azerbaijan in the last quarter of 2012. The practice has grown into a substantial company with a broad portfolio of local and international projects on four continents.
Their first exposure to the Middle East came with the Royal Mirage Arabian Court project in Dubai in 2000, which quickly led to the Madinat Jumeirah Resort project in 2001 and the establishment of a Dubai office to facilitate the delivery of this project.
This led to the formation of DSA Architects International, which has grown from an office on a dusty building site, to an internationally recognised architectural practice focused on high quality design and construction documentation delivery, and has become well known for their involvement in a number of landmark Hotels, Casinos and Residential Developments in Southern Africa, the Middle East, and Europe.
The European branch of DSA was established in 1999 in response to a number of hotel commissions in Portugal and Madeira, and is now established in Lisbon with projects across Europe, including Russia and the Caribbean. RSL Architects still operates as the South African branch of the practice, and two of the founding partners, Clive Shepherd and Rob Low, work both locally and internationally from the Johannesburg offices.
