From 4 to 14 July in Tshwane, Gauteng, the 'Voices of the World' will gather to sing in the world's largest choir celebration – the World Choir Games. Market@theSheds, one of the most popular tourist attractions in Gauteng, and recently voted the #1 fun thing to do in Tshwane, is hosting the official World Choir Village at the Greek Orthodox Church grounds on the corner of Roper and Lynnwood Streets.
The World Choir Games competition is the Olympic Games of choral music and will be held on African soil for the first time ever. The World Choir Village (#WorldChoirVillage) will be a central point between the various choir performance venues. The Village will host at least 3 Friendship Concerts as part of the official program, together with vibrant art, design and crafts stalls, a collection of gourmet food trucks, a full bar service with local craft beers, wine, cocktails and coffee.
Big screens will display live choir and soccer feeds, and there will be performances by local musicians, pop-up art exhibitions and an open stage where any choir can perform in an informal, festive atmosphere. Rehearsal space for choirs can also be booked at the venue and at registration.
This is the place to be for social interaction, entertainment and networking with choirs from around the world. Visitors to the World Choir Village can look forward to an exciting showcase of the Colours of the Capital with local foodies, designers, artists and musicians combining efforts to give visitors a true experience of the city and its people. Combined with the richness of cultures and voices from around the world, this will make for a must-do 11-day event.
