Professor Barend (Bannie) Britz (1935-2013)

Architect Africa regretfully records the death of iconic South African architect Professor Emeritus Barend (Bannie) Britz on 27th March 2013.

Professor Britz was a graduate of the University of Pretoria (Bachelor of Architecture), the University of the Witwatersrand (Master of Urban Design) and the University of the Free State (Doctorate in Architecture).

During his much acclaimed career in the architectural profession, spanning over five decades, Professor Britz received seventeen Institute of South African Architects Awards of Merit as well as the Medal of Honour for Architecture.

Professor Britz was an active academic, published numerous papers on Architecture and taught at the Wits School of Architecture for many years. He was a frequent external examiner at most of South Africa's schools of architecture.
