Kenya: KTDA to Build One Billion Plant

THE Kenya Tea Development Agency will construct a Sh1 billion hydro-power generating plant company, it was revealed yesterday. The Settet Power Generation Company will be constructed in two phases on Itare and Kipsonoi rivers in Bomet county, said company chairman Andrew Langat. So far, KTDA members have raised Sh123, 278,862 for the project.

The Kenya Railways Corporation is opposed to an application by a Chinese developer seeking to include information that was inadvertently omitted in a Sh26 billion breach of contract suit. KRC through lawyer Cecil Miller has urged the court to disregard the application saying it is in bad faith and has no basis in law. "He has come to court under the wrong provision and court should not exercise its discretion in favour of the applicant," said Miller.

THE Kenya National Commission on Human Rights is planning to open offices in all the 47 counties countrywide, commissioner Anne Ngugi has said. Ngugi said the offices will help curb the rampant human rights violations in the country. She said the commission will first open offices in Nyanza, Coast and Eastern provinces before going to counties in other provinces.

Construction of the Sh450m One Border Stop Post at the Malaba border will start next Wednesday. The project is funded by the World Bank and is the largest in East and Central Africa. The commencement date was reached yesterday during the OSBP site handing over closed door meeting at the immigration offices in Malaba.
