Ross Smyth is a qualified architect having completed his architectural degree at the University of Cape Town (BArch) in 2005 and his professional practice exam in 2008 (PrArch 20760). He joined Stauch Vorster Architects (SVA) in Durban from 2006 through to 2008 before venturing to Dubai, United Arab Emirates where he worked for the accomplished British firm of architects Godwin Austen Johnson.
Whilst in Dubai, he had the opportunity to work with a team of colleagues and leading consultants from a variety of backgrounds and nationalities on medium scale to multi-million dollar projects that included residential, commercial and mixed-use ventures throughout the Middle East and North Africa.
Through his travels to countries in South America, the States, Europe and Asia, he developed a keen interest and an appreciation for sustainable practices, alternative building methods and appropriate design and became a LEED Green Associate through the U.S. Green Building Council in 2010.
Having recently returned to South Africa, Ross decided to establish his own practice SALT Studio to pursue his interest and passion in creating interesting and appropriate architecture using vernacular and regional architecture as a reference.
