The mining sector has the capacity and potential to enhance economic growth and value addition. The sector has forward and backward linkages with many sectors of the economy, including manufacturing, small and medium industries, construction and infrastructure. According to the Ministry of Finance approved lines of credit in support of investment in equipment into the mining sector in 2011 amounted to US$502 million.
