Nation's 'German Children' Remain Proud of Their History

[AIM] London - An academic paper written by Tanja Muller and published in the journal "Comparative Education" has found that the Mozambican children sent to study in the German Democratic Republic (GDR) in the late 1980's continue to value the education and socialisation they received in that former socialist country.

30 Union Militants Sacked

[AIM] Maputo - At least 30 trade union militants were sacked from their companies last year because of their insistence on defending workers' rights, as enshrined in Mozambique's labour legislation, according to Alexandre Munguambe, general secretary of the country's main trade union federation, the OTM.

Shell Increases Offer for Cove Energy

CNE Announces Definitive Inhambane Result

[AIM] Maputo - The chairperson of Mozambique's National Elections Commission (CNE), Joao Leopoldo da Costa, on Tuesday announced the definitive results from the mayoral by-election held last Thursday in the southern city of Inhambane, confirming the victory of Benedito Guimino, candidate of the ruling Frelimo Party, over his sole opponent, Fernando Nhaca, of the Mozambique Democratic movement (MDM).

Agreement On Domestic Supplies of Natural Gas

[AIM] Maputo - In less than two years, natural gas will be piped to homes in Maputo city and the neighbouring district of Marracuene, under an agreement signed on Monday between Mozambique's National Hydrocarbon Company (ENH), and the South African petro-chemical giant, Sasol, according to a report in Tuesday's issue of the independent newsheet "Mediafax".
