[The Star]Mercy Chebgowen picked Kenya's first gold medal while winning the 3,000m race at the world junior championships in Barcelona, Spain on Tuesday. Chebwogen produced a decisive sprint over the final 200m to win in 9:08.88. Ethiopian Hiwott Gebrekidan, who got past a determined Emile Gorecka of Great Britain 25m from the line, recorded 9:09.27 to pick up the silver with Goreka winning bronze.
