CK Postpone East Africa Tournaments Finals to Next Year

Cricket Kenya have further postponed the finals of the East Africa Premier League and East African Cup due to the prolonged rains in Nairobi. Rwenzori Warriors were due take on the Nile Knights in the final of the EAPL on Saturday while the Knights were scheduled to tackle Kongonis in the EAC final on Sunday. Both games were due to take place at Nairobi Gymkhana.

Girls Team Boss Happy With Tour Squad

National under-20 women's team manager Maqulate Atieno has exuded confidence that the team will trounce Lesotho in their Fifa World Cup preliminary round return leg away match on December 9. Atieno said the team has now gelled well as opposed to the first leg here in Nairobi on November 18, where they managed a 2-0 victory despite training for just four days.

Sh276 Million Irrigation Plan for Murang'a

The government has allocated Sh276 million to fund Mirichu-Murika irrigation water project in Kiharu, Murang'a. According to Murang'a irrigation officer Patrick Rukenya, the project is expected to boost agricultural productivity in the region. The officer said the smallholder irrigation facility will cover 400 hectares and benefit 2,000 households in the first phase.

Sambu Beaten in Bungoma Election

Major (Rtd) John Waluke Koyi is the new Bungoma county ODM chair after trouncing Webuye MP Alfred Wekesa Sambu. Waluke garnered 43 votes against Sambu's 17. Majimbo Okumu was unanimously elected as secretary and John Mukholi treasurer. Hilda Siang'a got the secretary for women affairs seat while George Barasa emerged the youth leader.

Court Orders By-Election for Eldoret Market Ward

The High Court in Eldoret has ordered for a civic by-election in the town after nullifying the 2007 election of an ODM councillor. Justice Festus Azangalala however rejected an earlier ruling by a magistrate declaring PNU activist Jane Wangui as winner of the civic seat . "I order that a by-election be held in the Market ward so that voters in the area can elect a representative of their choice," said Azangalala during the rulling attended by hundreds of members of the public.

Foreign Affairs to Appeal Al Bashir Ruling

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs yesterday said it may appeal against the High Court ruling that on Monday issued a warrant of arrest against President Omar Bashir, hours after Sudan expelled Kenya's ambassador and recalled its envoy in Nairobi. "Since our judicial system provides for right of appeal, we shall carefully look at the judgment with a view to requesting the Attorney General to expeditiously prefer an appeal in the matter," Foreign Affairs minister Moses Wetang'ula said in a statement.

Nurses Set to Go On Strike December 7

NURSES countrywide are threatening to go on strike from December 7 if the government fails to heed their call for a pay increment and improved working conditions. If the government fails to avert the strike, it will take place two days after doctors down their tools from December 5. The nurses are demanding for a 300 per cent pay hike, and hiring of more health personnel to meet the country's surging population and increased health needs. The strike notice has been issued by the Kenya Health Professionals
