South Sudan praises Angola's support

Angola,  Addis Ababa - The president of South Sudan, Salva Kir Mayardit, Monday in Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), hailed Angolan support to resolve the dispute with Sudanand pacify the region of the common border. The appreciation was expressed at a meeting that Salva Kir held with the vice-president, Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos, on the sidelinesof the XIX Summit of Heads of State and Government of African Union (AU), held in the Ethiopian capital. According to the South Sudanese minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon Nhial Deng Nhial, the meeting also served to informabout the conflict and to ask Angola to exert its influence to resolve the territorial dispute. He thinks Angola, as a member of the AU Peace and Security Council, can play a big role for the agreements that may be achieved. Hon Nhial Deng Nhial considered an advancement for the agreement on the date of commencement of talks between the two States, under the mediation of the AU. He said that they are open to negotiations and expects to enforce the resolutions of the United Nations. The Republic of Sudan South became independent from Sudan on 9 July 2011, following a referendum organized by the UN. However, the two countries are still facingterritorial disputes in areas rich in oil, mainly from the region of Abyei.
