Sao Tome Foreign minister arrives in Luanda

Visit, Luanda - The Foreign Affairs minister of  Sao Tome and Principe, Manuel Salvador dos Ramos, arrived Friday in Luanda to attend the 6th extraordinary meeting of Council of Ministers of Gulf of Guinea, scheduled between 11 and 12 August this year. Speaking to Angop at Luanda's " 4 de Fevereiro" International Airport, the minister said that the meeting will analyse and assess the progress of the organisation since the last meeting, held in April of the current year.The participants in the meeting will also find out immediate solutions to some issues faced by the organisation and analyse some aspects related to the improvement of the organisation and present new proposals to the heads of State of the organisation. The official also underlined that the Commission of Gulf of Guinea is tasked with working for the protection of the common interests of the region and develop partnership with the international organisations like the United Nations. According to Manuel Salvador dos Ramos, the organisation has been striving for combat the maritime piracy and work for promotion of harmonious, economic and social development of the member countries."Maritime Strategy for the Gulf of Guinea," a document presented by Nigeria and adopted at the previous meeting, is the common basis in terms of defence and security in the region.Created in 2001 in Luanda, the Gulf of Guinea Commission gathers Angola, Nigeria, Sao Tome and Principe, Gabon, Democratic Republic of Congo, Republic of Congo, Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea.
