Role of Human Rights Committees highlighted
Role of Human Rights Committees highlighted , Lubango – The Human Rights committees in all provinces of the country play a relevant role in the mobilisation and awareness raising for the wellbeing in the communities. This was said Wednesday in Lubango, southern Huila province, by the secretary of State for Human Rights, António Bento Bembe. The official was speaking at a meeting with the authorities of the province that play a part in the administration of justice. Antonio Bento Bembe said the committees are an indispensable instrument in raising awareness and searching for cultural values in the communities. He stressed that the Government has outlined a broad political programme meant for the reinforcement of the publicity of matters linked to the citizens’ rights and duties as enshrined in the Constitution. To him, it is necessary to maintain the respect for dignity of the human being. Bento Bembe said the human rights committees bring together members of various walks of the society, including churches, non-governmental organisations and civil society. On the other hand, the secretary of State appealed to the committees to continue making effort as Government partners and work hard in the publicity of more and more human rights. He said the country has plunged into a very active area of globalisation where the new information technologies promote new cultural, economic, political and social values in a more far-reaching way. However, he admitted constraints facing the human rights committees, with stress to the lack of human resources and means that would facilitate their activity. But he said his department is working to lessen some constraints in the above mentioned domains. The meeting was attended by members of provincial human rights committees and representatives of organisations of the civil society, NGOs, churches and juvenile associations of human rights in Huila.
