Process of Kimberley fulfils goals - Official

Luanda, Luanda – The CEO of Angola’s National Diamond Company (Endiama EP), Carlos Sumbula, said Thursday in Luanda that the Process of Kimberly has effectively accomplished the goals behind its creation, by banning the war diamonds. “The process serves as a great factor of dissuasion of future conflicts in the world. We think that the process should continue having as its main goal to prevent the emergence of future diamond-fed wars,” said the official. Carlos Sumbula was speaking at the meeting she had with the chairwoman of the Process of Kimberly, US ambassador Gillian Arlete Milovanovic. The official on the occasion informed that in August this year, the Lobito Railway will be inaugurated, linking the Angolan Port city (Lobito) to the country’s eastern diamond rich region of Moxico province.  He said a road linking the province of Moxico and Lunda Sul up to Lunda Norte province will also be built. With the completion of these infrastructures, he said, the equipment and logistics of the diamond company will be carried from Luanda Port on road, as an alternative to Lobito Port, through the Benguela Railway. On the other hand, Carlos Sumbula invited Gilliam Milovanovic to visit the 25,000-house city being built in the diamond rich north-eastern Lunda Norte province. The official also spoke of the Cacanda Agricultural Project, the Catoca Mine that is considered the world’s fourth largest Kimberlite, the Chicapa hidro-electric dam and the works of construction of another three thousand buildings in Saurimo, the capital of north-eastern Lunda Sul province. In her tun, Gillian Milovanovic watched a vídeo on the Angolan Government’s achievements, and said that ten years after the creation of the Processo f Kemberly, all should be done to keep it going. The visiting US ambassador also visited the premises of the Diamond Sale Society (SODIAM).
