Minister, MPs discuss orthographic accord

Angola, Luanda – The Angolan minister of Education, Pinda Simão, Friday in Luanda met with members of the 3rd and 6th Commissions of the National Assembly (Parliament) to clarified aspects of the 1990 Orthographic Agreement, regarding the solution found by the Cabinet Council Ministers of the Portuguese Speaking Countries Community (CPLP) to existing constraints.The meeting was attended by the Angolan ministers of Culture, Rosa Cruz e Silva, Justice, Guilhermina Prata, Higher Education, Science and Technology, Maria Candida Teixeira, and representatives of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Labour.At the end of the meeting, Pinda Simao told the press that the identification of several constraints in the Orthographic Agreement led the country to discuss with the CPLP member countries.The matter was presented to the Council of Ministers of that institution that recommended studies to identify the said constraints.As for the above issue, the minister stressed that the objective set by Angola has been achieved and now the Orthographic Agreement matter has been re-opened among the CPLP member States, which together will build the elements for correction.He explained that one of the points still seen as a constraint is the fact that the reality of African languages is not taken into account in the Agreement.The graphical representations of certain words with the socio-language realities of the peoples have not been taken into consideration either, the source added.
